It may be me getting older and subsequently more cantankerous, but every piece of art I seem to encounter that features solid shapes of colour looks like it is either designed for or by children. This particular example is by rather a famous child, Sophie Matisse, the great-granddaughter of Henri Matisse. Think of her has the Stella McCartney of the art world. Is that unfair? Probably not. This is one of five uniquely designed [kid's] chess sets, selling at $16,000. Read more after the jump.

These chess sets have been designed as part of the “The Art of the Game” exhibition. The exhibition will take place at Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair San Diego, scheduled for September 2-4, 2009 at The Grand Del Mar. If the “art” part of “The Art of the Game” is anything like what i’ve been seeing recently, I imagine other exhibits to include cigarette butt draughts, crack rock dominoes, and homeless prostitute ludo.
