So, the new Chanel No.5 ad is here, and it’s called Train de nuit. Being a French speaker, I can roughly translate this as “meaningless overacting”. It stars Audrey Tatou from the excellent Amelie, and is directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, also of Amelie fame. The previous, Nicole Kidman Chanel ad sticks in mind as possibly one of the most offensive adverts to my eyes and ears, and I imagine the vision of Nicole’s Styrofoam face whining “I love to dance!” repeating in my head as I embark upon a murderous spree. The less awful version is after the jump.

I have to say that it does look pretty good, but Audrey Tatou looks a bit ropey these days. She’s obviously slimmed down a bit and is a bit more tanned, but it’s not doing it for me. Not even a flinch downstairs.

Lest we forget that Chanel is still the finest perfume…
Word.
Chanel No.5 is what Marilyn Monroe wore. She was asked what she wore in bed, and replied “Chanel No.5″ I think there was a marked increase in sales!
