No of course it doesn’t. But I’m sure they’re very proud. Sorry, I’m grouchy this morning as I missed the Eurovision semi finals. Anyway, a rare blue diamond has sold for a record 10.5 million swiss francs ($12.4m) at auction in Geneva. More after the jump.

In May 2008 a 3.73 carat diamond was sold at auction for nearly $5m setting the world record price per carat for any gemstone at auction.
There’s a whole mess of facts and stuff about blue diamonds, their extreme rarity, the fact that it’s 7.03 carats, that it was found at the Cullinan mine in South Africa last year blah blah blah boring. I just find diamonds don’t do it for me. Ever since I saw that movie Blood Diamond. It didn’t teach me anything about the immorality of the diamond trade, its just anything that perpetuates those god awful accents should be put down immediately.
Did you know that Akon owns a diamond mine in South Africa? Did you know that it has been alleged that the mine is a source of conflict diamonds? Who does Akon blame for this? The movie Blood Diamond for creating the problem. Oh yea, I get it. Before Leo DiCaprio got on board smuggling and trading in illegal diamonds, after having died on a cuise liner in 1912, everything was just peachy.
