Thank Christ, I was quite honestly scrabbling around for material until I stumbled upon yet another celebrity drink flogging. Phew. Gawd bless you celebrities and your Faustian willingness to put you name to literally anything. This fine example is 901 Silver Tequila, by Justin Timberlake. The bumf says “founded by”, but I think we can take that to mean “paid for by”, unless Timberlake is some closet distilling expert. Read more after the jump.
Apparently Timberlake and partners selected Tequilera Newton in the heart of Jalisco, Mexico to produce 901 after visiting more than 10 distilleries. Wow. 10 eh? That’s a big deal. They visited 10 distilleries, who all said “yea, we can make your tequila”, they probably went away for lunch, and then picked one. This process probably could not have taken more than a week or so.
The name 901 apparently refers to Timberlake’s Michigan area code, what time it was when he thought of the name, the price per bottle that this drink merits, and the number of jokes I could conceivably flog out of the number 901.

I am a huge fan of 901 Tequila and I also heard something about a special surprise that the brand 901 is doing on their site on “901″ (September 1) at http://www.901at901.com. There is a countdown widget (www.901at901.com/widget) as well.
Not sure what the surprise is going to be, but I am guess it has something to do with a certain singer/dancer!
